FARM CITY.

I'm reading a book called Farm City: The Education of an Urban Farmer. So far I've loved it. This woman lives in Oakland, CA in a small apartment along the urban streets. Behind her complex lies an empty lot which she turns into a garden and home for her dozens of chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys.

Random neighbors and homeless people benefit from this garden along with her apple, lemon, fig, and orange trees. I'm only a couple chapters in, but it's inspired me to live providently and find joy through work.

I totally want to plant fruit trees and expand my garden. I feel like we live in a lazy world now-a-days, and I want my children to participate in fun work. What better way than to make a mini urban farm?

GARDEN FRESH.

Brett says there are dog people, and garden people. We are garden people.

We are loving the strawberries, onions, beans, tomatoes, and lettuce from our garden. Some of the plants still have a long way to go, but for the most part we've been impressed from the plants that have actually produced food.

The strawberries are pretty small, but the perfect size for Lulu.

GARDEN UPDATE.

My thumb is slowly turning green. Look how much our garden has grown! Especially compared to last month.  I can see myself as an old shrunken lady trying to plant things.

I'm excited for the first "harvest." I really want the corn to grow because Brett doesn't believe in it. Keep on growing garden!

GARDENING FAITH.

Our garden is officially 1 week old. I feel like we own a puppy. Brett and I are always asking, "How's the garden doing?" or saying things like, "Do you think they will be ok out there?" (on cold nights) and "Did the garden get water today?"

This is our first gardening attempt.

The whole experience has put a new spin on faith for me. I'm realizing that faith is fragile.

Before planting, I held the seeds in my hand and a few of them actually got lost in the creases of my palm. Then dropping each seed into a dark whole and covering it with dirt made me question if I'd ever see them again.

But we have seen them! Today we noticed little baby lettuce sprouts popping through the dirt. I felt like a proud parent.

Our garden has increased my faith. With proper action, faith will grow and produce righteous desires and blessings.
